I'm curious of what these two cichlids are. I have an idea of the blue one but have no clue what the other on is. I got both from the LPS in the assorted tank.

The Red one is a male from the Aulonocara genus

http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/results.php?genus=17

(Can be "German Red" under stress can be one of the A. hansbaenschi s. But, I can't tell for sure.)

The other fish seems to be a female Aulonocara sp.

Let's see what the experts say.

Cheers,

What is it that you can tell the sex on them without venting, I was thinking the German red was what the red and blue was,

What?

They look like peacocks (Aulonocara spp.). Other than that you can't really tell for sure. Depending on how you define a species they are not different species in the first place. Unless you KNOW what they are (bought as P0/wild caught or are F1, F2, etc. offspring from known wild caught parents) you have to assume they are hybrids (if you believe they are different species in the first place).

2nd picture, top fish with red/orange body and blue face is a Copa. Borleyi.

You guys need to open a book once in a while if you think that's a peacock... smh

Thanks iamzrad that looks exactly the same, my camera sucks and doesn't show of the true colors. The one with the tiger like stripes is still a mystery. Looked around but nothing, really thinking it some sort of hybrid.

I would say also Borleyi and the other maybe Tangerine tiger hybrid. The red and blue fish look nothing like a German Red Peacock imo.

The first one is a Copadichromis Borleyi "Red Kadango" indeed.

And if the second one isn't a hybrid I would look in the Protomelas fenestratus genus.

As to the people who suggest Aulonocara please read up more about the different species. If you can't tell the difference between an Aulonocara or Copadichromis let the naming over to people who know what they are talking about. There is enough confusion in the correct naming of cichlids as it is.
