What's a Good in line Heater fro FX5's?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very nice! Glad to see more folks using this design. Get those fugly heaters out of the tank!!!

Finding barbed fittings can be a problem. Lowes and HD don't have a good selection. I had to order mine online. Good choice on the sanitary tees and elbows. Nicer design lets the water flow smoother without sharp bends. I started using these in my setups as well. They cost the same as PVC parts too.

Okay, so this is turning VERY simple. And the great thing is that the Barbs that I used at ends of the little 1" Threaded 90's are interchangable and they have multiple sizes, I would say about 2-3 others that are a tad smaller than this one at home depot. So this could actually be the simplest setup.... My only concern my be an air pocket at the end, but this may be avoided being that it's only the output...

Here are the basic pieves cut. I'm using 2" tube for the heating chambers. With a 90* at one end and a curved T at the other. I cut 2" long pieces of the 2" pipe to fit between the 90's and the Flexible reducers. One end will be glued into the Pipe and the other obviously will be clamped down with the provided clamps that came with flexible reducers. The large end of the small 90's will be clamped as well and he other end will have the barbs screwed in with teflon tape and filter hoses will be clamped to those... I still have to get the Slip/ threaded reducers for the CordGrips that will hold the Heaters into place.

Once I figured out the reducing joints it was very easy to picture and piece together...

good stuff...definately need pics when it is set up

but im not going to lie...i have no idea how it works. Can someone explain exactly how an inline heater is set up?

I currently have a 1000 watt heater in my sump but when i switch to my wet/dry i would be forced to put the heater in the tank because of no room in the filter and i definatley want to avoid that if possible.

what i dont understand is the water level line on the heater looks like it will be above the tee where it goes to the hose. or is the whole tube filled with water at all times

It's a real simple concept. Water goes in either from the top or the bottom, passes around the heater, then returns to the tank, thereby heating the water.

The whole tube will be filled with water. Part of the heater will be out of the PVC module, which is fine. Heaters like the Jager have a maximum water level line, so as long as that part is outside, you're good to go.

I sold the little setup you see above, but the new owner said it works flawlessly, no leaks whatsoever :)

Jcardona...you have plans for that co2 reactor? ;)

Okay, when heyco called me back today to verify my question of whtrher or not a 1" diameter heater would fit in the .59"- 1" Cord grip (it does), the women told me how to get a free "Sample" product.

It'very easy. On the home page right underneither "Distributor/ Rep and Part umber Search" on the right hand side of the screen at the top, you will see a tab called "Catalog Sample Request". Just click on the tab and it take you to the order form. Fillin your Nae, address and shipping info as well as the part number (#8437 for the .59" - 1.0") or (#M4522 for .787" - 1.02").

Here is the list Just look for those number and you can order something larger if need be! You can also order it in black or grey. Your choice!

Here is the Free Sample ordering Form Page

Fro some reason the sites link isn't working but give it a minute. It should be back up and running fine!
