Whats a good starter puffer?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
u know it makes sense! it's when it gets to this size that you need a bigger tank! :D

mbu's are def not good for beginners. i'd go with a fahaka though because there pretty much easy to keep and have good personalities. only problem would be a large tank, but ur 120g will do in the near future.

Agreed. An mbu is the absolute total opposite of "good starter puffer".

A 120 would be fine for a fahaka.

I'm thinking about the fahka, I've always wanted a puffer and she seems to like every one I shower her :). Whats a marius?

not sure but i think he means miurius, which is a congo puffer. They get about 5" and are super aggressive, but cool kept alone, i was thinkin about gettin one but i think theyr kinda ugly.

Show her a mbu, watch her fall in love with it and get a bigger tank! that's what i did! :headbang2 :headbang2

I have been reading on and off on this site for a while now and I just had to post when I saw your pictures. You have some very sweet fish. I am thoroughly impressed. How many tanks do you keep and what do you have in them? If you don't mind me asking.

I would not recommend either a fahaka nor a mbu for a beginner. Both these fish grow very fast, and need great water quality. A 120G is too small for a mbu, and a snug fit for a fahaka for life.

I don't know if it's that much of a snug fit. The biggest I've ever seen (and this is an absolute maximum) was 19", I've not seen many that get near to that.

I keep mine at 13"ish in a 5x2x2, plenty of room.
