Whats the best fish to breed at home for feeder fish?

I currently have probably about 60 or so rosy red minnows and a couple small goldfish in there but I have it all decorated just waiting on the lighting to come in and the bb to get established with the cannister filter i have an established pair of rainbow cichlids in my 20 gallon to breed for feeders some too give a little variety, is it a pain to breed rosy red minnows or goldfish?

the live bearers and convicts seems like a good idea i wouldn't mind trying, maybe once I feed all the fish in the 55 to the bigger tank ill try out that, whats some recommended livebearers?

From what I hear all ya got to do to breed minnows is just put a red solo cup in the tank. Granted if that's true or not I have no clue, never tried it myself. But it would be worth a try atleast.

that sounds really easy. I should try that

Fathead minnows (of which Rosy Reds are just a colour variety) breed like rabbits in my little outdoor pond, with absolutely no help from me, including food! The first year I had them we put in a dozen just after ice-out in the spring and had 400-500 fish total by fall. Kept in the basement and actually fed, they don't slow down and just keep breeding. It also appears that ...indoors, at least...they don't seem to eat their young to any great extent. Super easy to keep and breed, don't get big, don't need a heater, and unlike goldfish their scales don't feel like chain mail, so I suspect they are easier on the digestive systems of predators. And they are active and interesting aquarium specimens.

Only problem with the fathead minnows I've ran into now is how fast they get eaten
Well think of em like potato chips, ya can't just stop at one lol. Honestly would love to see someone feed some roughly this guy's size to some big predator fish. This is a wild fathead I caught while fishing one day. Blew my record size out of the water, honestly thought it was a trout when I was feeling it in till I got him on shore. He was at exactly 11in when caught, fat heads do get some size if allowed to.

At this point my rosy reds are in for a challenge surviving now i put 2 of my smaller bichir that kept getting there minnows snatched by my Oscar's in the 55 with them until they grow larger, but once they get big enough to handle there own and not get food snatched they will be moved back until then I guess its an all you can eat buffet
