I think you will be fine with the plecos and a bichir.
I keep seeing people say plecos will suck on bichirs so I searched it on the site and all it comes up with is the same people saying it will happen and the same people telling them to feed their plecos.
I'd go with a sene, delhezi or a palmas polli but there are others too.

That would depend on which type of pleco. I have success with genus Acanthicus, Scobinancistrus, Pseudacanthicus, Ancistrus, Leporacanthicus, Panaque and Parancistrus but not from genus Pterygoplichthys.

You have to know that there are two different species of common plecos. One is Pterygoplichthys pardalis are more likely to sucked on the slimes. The other one is Hypostomus punctatus the less opportunistic one.

I know commons are bad so I guess I shouldn't put it as all are fine with bichirs.

I have had 3 different carnivorus plecos(2 L14's, and 2 different gold nuggets) and a royal with mine, which 12 bichirs, 8 of them near, at, or over a foot in a 120g long and you'd figure I'd have a problem but never have.

I make sure all my fish are fed their somewhat correct diet. That includes all different foods for almost all my species.

Well should i get one or not? maybe i should just stick with plecos and a some other oddball.

What type of plecos?

Can try another thread with something like...
What Types Of Plecos With Bichirs?
Or...
What Kind Of Pleco Ate Your Slime?

Eitherway there is a risk. I can only vouge for the types of plecos that I have had or currently have.

If you wanna add plecos with ganoid scaled fish try these plcoes from this Genus listed below: You can go to planetcatfish.com if you wanna search which species you want to keep.
-Acanthicus
-
Scobinancistrus
-
Pseudacanthicus
-
Ancistrus
-
Leporacanthicus
-
Panaque
-
Parancistrus

Stay away from those with genus Pterygoplichthys

You can actually keep many different species of plecos with ganoid scaled fish, you just have to know which one and which one you should stay away from. Stay away from those opportunistic eater.
