hey all

this guys not huge yet but he is my girlfriends and mine biggest one.

He is a 10" albino walking catfish. About 2.5-3" around and his name is snowflake.

pretty darn cute if you ask me. he likes to be pet, will eat out of your hand, he eats all the snails you pick up in plants and eat just about anything.

I havn't seen many of these on here, in fact none that i can think of. Any reasons? i think there illegal in some states, but not in canada.

Anyways, he'll be moving into a 300 Gal with my TSN (about 5" but not for long) and a 1 year old pacu in a month or so.

hope you dig em

they are kind of neat. one of the few fish that breathes air!

but if you don't take well enough care of the tank...they will push the top off and walk away usually to be eaten by a cat or dry up on your living room rug.

yeah the red tail was in a 7x3x3 about 15 or 16 years ago. it was feed mostly on whole trout from the supermarket. mum went down shop and got them each week lol the only pics i have are actual photo's. i will try nd get them on here somehow, but i dunno how.
he also had a couple of TSN 30 inch+ and at one point a Oxydoras Niger that was the same length.
he's had Perrunichtys Perruno too at about 30 inch bullheads 20 inch and clarius cats 18 inch, Giant gourami's 24inch, Pacu's the size of a dustbin lid so about 24 inch plus and many cichlids like Tilapia Buttikofferi, Vieja Synspilum, Hartwegi, Amphliophous Citrinellum/Labiatum, Oscars, Jags, Blue eyed Pleco 15 inch and a red Snakehead that was in the region of 2 foot.

he's had them all at one point or another and they all got huge, they were fed loadsa food and massive water changes done very regualr. to filter it he had undergravel believe it or not, but also had 3 or 4 of the old Eheim Grey buckets with the Hobby pump 1250 on top!!
he still gets mates that he aint seen for a long time saying "you still got that massive tank?" he just laughes lol
it was one of the biggest private aquariums in the country at the time and prob the biggest Red Tail Cat in the country at the time. i was extremly surprised to hear all this when i first started out in the hobby and trade. i even did research to find out if it was wives tail or not but it was true lol ask friends, family, his old fish shop he worked in as a teenager just like me and also his old boss/LFS owner/friend of the family an he reckons that he looked after it for while and he fed it a rat, LIVE!!!:WHOA: and he swallowed it down whole!!
i will try and sort some pics for ya all. :D

"how much do those cost? They are some sweet cats"

We inherited it, so im not really sure. I have only ever seen one in a pet store, it was about 10" and $100.00 CDN.

I know that they are illegal in some states. Im not sure exactly which, mostly the southern states where they will survive outdoors.

These cats are super friendly. When you put your hand in the tank it will swim all around it and rub up against you. They love to be pet and rub up on any other fish in the tank.

I had 2ea 24 incher red tail cats. I moved to Ft Benning Ga and the fish survived the trip fine however they died almost instantainiously when i put them in the tank. The biggest held on for almost 2 days but died. I lost over $1000 in catfish and rare chiclids and barracudas to crappy Chattahoochie river valley water. On a positive note I hope these are the only fatalities from my time at Ft benning that my family has to endure. Hope I dont get a bullet in my ass. lol
