When does a tank crack/chip become a problem

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is like a big chip rather than a crack on the outside corner of the tank. Its a 125gallon and I'v already filled it up with water so nothing leaks or breaks. I am just wondering if you guys think this little break could turn into something much more. Take a look lemme know if you think it will break the tank and also if I can easily fix this please teach me.

When the chip is into the silicon....it is way past what I would feel comfortable putting in my house...it instantly becomes a garage tank....minor chips do weaken the glass in that spot...but if it is superficial probably be fine...but I don't like chips...it all boils down to what you are comfortable living with.....

It's not at all to make it stronger it's to make it safe frome stupid people that don't know better then to stick there finger on a crack in glass. It's kinda like when I have to put a guard ontop of a guard and then a light curtain on a machine so some dumb ass doesn't manage to hurt themselves. Yes I build and idiot proof machines for a living

I thought I had heard of people actually patching with acrylic and silicone to form a corner brace, preferably on both the inside and outside; it is an eye sore but would add some strength. I am not a 100% sure on process as I haven't attempted myself.

It really depends on how big the chip is. I had one 30 gal tank with a big chip on one edge. It held water for months until one day I did water change and the chipped side collapsed and 30 gal flooded the floor.

I think I've only ever owned 1-2 tanks without chips in them. All depends on where the chip is, just think if there is enough glass contacting around it so it won't compromise the structural integrity. If it's on the outside it's probably good. If it's on the inside it's a judgement call.

The chip is weird it's like there is still a flat piece of glass then a gap underneath it than the tank. I don't think it goes all the way through . As I said originally no leaks and nothing happened when I fully filled it

I can probably resell it. I. Got it for 100$. Just looking for opinions from guys/girls who have experience going through the same thing. If you do please post a picture of your tank and chip/whatever . I think it would help me a lot.
