im just wonderin where can i buy a female goldfish, i lived here in canada and ive asked all the pet store about female goldfish and they always say they dont know which one and some say they dont sell female goldfish... can someone help me? by the way live here in winnipeg manitoba canada..

Goldfish cannot reliably be sexed until they're in spawning condition when females are ripe with eggs and males develop breeding tubercles. If I were you I would post an ad on craigslist asking for a proven adult female. I'm sure you'll find some pond owners who might be able to help.

All previous answers are correct, however if your LFS has goldfish at all they should be cheap, and ive found the easiest way to get a female, or male as far as that goes is to buy 6-8, grow them out and hope to get a pair, When i was doing chiclids, i would always do that, and always seemed to be successful, also, even though you get a male and female doesnt mean those 2 will definetly pair up. i would always have obvious males and female left over that never did pair up in that same tank, they seemed to just become sub-dominant
