Where to find Wild Meeki?

Does anyone know where someone could get wild Meeki? Or why they are available so infrequently? They are like one of my top species on my bucket list but they are never available...

I'd be interested as well. There are many different variations based on location. Most meeki found in the hobby are less colorful than wild. Rapps does get them sometimes.

I remember years ago I saw the rio subin variety for sale. I loved thier color especially in the dorsal and anal fins. I have not seen any since. I emailed Jeff to see if he would be getting any so we will see but I wanted to ask just in case anyone was still breeding them. It seems that wild or F1 of "common"fish like jacks, Meeki, and oscars are the hardest to find.

Great examples of one of my all time favourite cichlids.Theres a reason why these fish are common in the hobby.
Mature males like the ones posted above are a beautiful sight.
Thanks for posting, enjoyed looking.

I really like the rio subin variety. But I wonder if line breeding the so called "black" meeki could possibly make a firemouth with an all black gill plate. That would be an interesting project. I have always wanted to do a Meeki and pasionis tank with some giant sailfin mollies.

From Jefff...

"Hi Reggie
I have some wild meeki I collected from Cenote Encantado in MX last year as fry. They may spawn this summer.
Hopefully I will then have some F1 fry to offer.
Thanks again, jeff"

For those who may be looking to get Meeki...
