Which sump return pump do you recommend?

For the price point, jebao pumps are hard to beat. Ime they are also reliable, powerful, relatively quiet, and the controllers have always worked well (and still are) on my setups. When i bought my 2x dcp-10000s about 5 years ago i think they were ~$100 USD each, they have been in constant operation since then and i can honestly say i have not had a single jam or failure with the pumps or controllers.
They do generate some waste heat especially on higher power and they are not recommended for external use for this reason. Higher end pumps are usually designed with some kind of radiative cooling mechanism to allow external mounting. If you do plan on mounting the pump externally i would be looking at pumps that specifically state they are for internal(submerged) or external applications.

sicce and jabao I've stayed away from had a couple of wavemakers of each just stop working without being used for much longer than a year
