My fish (my new Africans) About 3 out of the ten of them spend half their time nose rubbing and running around against the glass. My parameters are perfect. There is nothing wrong with their water. Plenty of filtration but it seems there is always a fish nose rubbing and it bugs the hell out of me. This is 8 African cichlids and a poly sen Bichir in a 55 gallon. :)
The Bichir does this as well . They are also all fed very well
Im wondering if the light being on 12 hours stresses them or what? Theres plenty of hiding spots big caves little caves a fake hollow log... This is really irritating:irked:
Thanks all ,

maybe its their reflections that they are fond of following...my irridescent sharks are exactly doin the same thing.

Do you have a backround on the tank? I've noticed that sometimes when the tank is completely open with no backround some fish tend to due that or swim very eratic.

It has a back ground. And I have heard the fish don't see reflections from inside the tank they see out. I am pretty sure it is a sign of stress but my temp and parameters are perfect. Makes no sense to me.

My Lake Malawi cichlids do this also. Mostly when I'm about to feed them or when they think I'm about to feed them. I figured they just have high metabolism and get impatient antsy.

Plus, it may just be instinctual of the african fish. I read that the Hap Moorii is accustomed to following behind other fish sifting in sand for food hoping to pick up food after them. Maybe one or two fish are doing this and others are just following.

Its 8 small African cichlids and a 7" Poly Bichir in a 55 gallon. And yeah they definitely do it when they are going to get fed but when I am watching them from across the room (the couch ) There is always 2 or 3 of them doing it. No rapid breathing or flashing. They are newer fish (The Africans are about a week old) The Bichir is 5 months old and has been in three different grow out tanks :)

All of my Africans have done this. Not sure whats up with it. I'm guessing that they want to see the world or something.
