Does anyone know if you can tell a difference between wild caught Tiger Oscars and Captive Bred? I have a 6" (got him when he was about 3") and he doesn't have to bright orange I have seen on a lot of other people's Tigers. I also have an Albino the same size and he has a ton of color. Both came from different lfs's

The wild ones are usually a bit drab.

Then I probably have a wild? He has beautiful fins that are longer than the albino's but not as long as and actual labeled longfin. He changes skin tone to reveal some tiger stripes but its more a light brown with some small orange spots than bright orange color.
I'll see if I can find some pics.
Thanks

But there are feral Tiger Oscars. i.e-captive bred tiger oscars that have been released back into the wild and have reproduced.

Well thanks guys. He is just rather plain looking and I was wondering if it was a possibility as he just looks more "natural" to me, but guess not!
Oh well, He's still a good looking fish and I love him dearly. Have had him for half a year now, started him from a small about 3" fish and he is now a hearty looking 6"
Here's some pics

you have a tiger oscar on your hands just faded red, which may or may not increase with size., could be wild depending were you got it. (if in a LFS)- VERY little chance, and no chance if in a mojor retail fish store- ie- petsmart or other. wild oscars are more drab, depending on where they were collected.

I got him from the oddest little whole in the wall lfs I ran across one day. I have no clue where they get their fish, and I don't visit it much, just when my regular lfs hasn't had a new stock shipment in for awhile.

He's never had much color, but it seems that he used to have more than he does now.
(I never buy from a retail... bad boojy right there)--> that is unless its Feeders to throw in my outdoor pond since they just feed the kingfishers, herons, and river otters.

Look like a long fin breed..
