Wild vs. Captive Tiger Oscars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When talking about white, long fin, red etc, they are all just line bred versions of regular oscars, they are not different in the same species are different , just man induced color morphs of the A ocellatus. They can all easily interbreed because they are all the same species
There are 2 actual different species of Oscars, there is A. crassipinnus, and A. mikoljii.
But the color morphs are in reality similar to all the different color and shape morphs of goldfish, all C. auratus, or dozens of Betta splendors man induced variations.

Actually, 3. you left out ocellatus ;)

Their is also 3-4 more that are currently pending approval that will become more species of oscar. Lots of work was just recently done on the Astronotus genus. Cool stuff.
