I didn't were to write this since there is no hunting forum up here. I've got a skunk problem in yard. There is a skunk den in my yard near edge of my yard were it meets the woods. I've tried trapping them and relocating them but some how they come back. I have a Daisy powerline 880 air rifle. Its a multi pump air that fires .177 caliber bbs at 800 feet per second. I use it mostly for target practice but I've been thinking about using it to solve my problem thing is that I don't know if its strong enough. I know its got power cause I've hit targets over 100 yards away and its rated at 291 yards.

Sorry if this sounds cruel but its the only choice I've got.

Can you use pellets? A close head shot with a pellet would work for sure. A body shot will make the animal suffer and most likely wont kill it. At least for a couple weeks. Have you thought about trapping the animal? Most people trap then drown skunks but it would be possible to relocate a raccoon.

I'd pass on the 880, they're finch killers at best. For what you're planning, Id go .22mag rifle. It's sounds like a fire cracker so the neighbors won't get mad, you can get 50 shots for 5-6 bux and it will "humanely" turn the lights out for the skunk, while not making a mess. - N

Yes it fires both bbs and pellets. The bbs fire with more velocity then pellets do but idont see why either couldn't stop it. The racoons usually don't come back its the skunks that do. I rather just shoot em I dont want to be sprayed.

If I can get em close range it should drop em with out a mess I've put down a rabid racoon with it from about 15 feet. Mine sounds like a decent clap witch is great for night hunts.

It's a math function having to do with velocity, mass/weight, drag and other things I don't completely understand. I do understand the pellets will deliver more energy to the target. Go with pellets for killin. BB's for targets.

True. The bbs work just as good I just got one from about 50 ft nice clean kill . The skunk couldn't even spread it died so fast.

I'd rather they never see me comming. Bullet strikes before the report is heard. 880's to me are toys you get for your boy on his 12th b-day. Plus they're less than consistant, and not good powerwise for bigger animals like skunks or a raccoon. I'd hate to see a less that perfect shot lead to a skunk running off and dieing slow. A .22mag you can have enough distance the skunk has no idea. Plus a good one is consistant enough you can put a bullet through a bullet hole, and it will be powerful enough to put it straight to sleep without any risk of just wounding it. On top of that they're great guns to have around the house, teach your youngin' the ins and outs of gun safety etc. And they're fun :) - N

I might get a. 22 mag if the 880 don't cut it and just put the 880 up for my son. For now it seems to be working. I've got 4 so far thanks to my peanut butter bait. The skunks don't even know I'm here. I've been watching one munch on peanut butter since I've opened this thread.

I don't know much about BB and air guns but I was just curious as to how you went about trapping and relocating the skunks without being sprayed upon?
