Would this be a possibility?

Body is close to the girth of a regular coke can. My ornates are at a friends place in sydney. Best pic i have of the big guy. Female is smaller about 18inches. Colourwise, the big guy had retained it dark colouration as compared to other ornates ive acquired.

Had a buddy that had to put a Retic down after some Bichirs (Senegals maybe?) removed the eyes. They had been together for many months if not years without issue prior to it happening.

I had a big Ornate that would bite the rays at feeding time......

You should probably go see a doctor or therapist though if you'd rather keep Bichirs over rays....... lol J/K

IF you do end up deciding to keep rays I'd scratch the entire canister filter idea. You'll get very sick of trying to keep up with cleaning them and if you fall behind bad things happen. Better off with a sump and a moving bed......

i'd be concerned about the wolf with the small rays.

anyways, the filtration would be insufficient, most ray keepers aim for 4-10x the turnover rate. i myself only went 4, but used a sump to do so, not canister filters.

Yeah I've already decided on a sump just gonna have to deal with it the canisters just sounded easier but I'd rather put that money into making the materials better then the filtration. I don't think I'll be getting a ray for this setup, I know if I get one I'll want more and that'll be trouble haha. Better wait till I have a nice tile pond for em, I'm shooting for one in my house when I move out haha that way I can go all out without risking any fish
