I fully agree, he's part of the family! I wouldn't be able to bring myself to eat him. Regardless of the potential health issues. But that's a good point :) i'll keep that in mind next time my friends start planning a fish barbecue.

the problems is, you NEVER should eat livestock if it dies of old age. because you just don't know what it could have died from. "old age" is a generic term for "old enough to catch a disease/ have an organ fail" and with fish you don't know which one it is. thats why when pigs on a farm or cows die of old age they are useless and you can't do anything with them. especially since the meat is old.

all those movies of people eating their expired pets/ animals are just movies. you gotta catch them strong. and kill them strong. the only animal on earth that is an exception to this rule is salmon but only after spawning. because it is not actually age/decay thats killing it, its hormones and its otherwise a healthy fish.

The medications on aquarium fish clearly indicate that they should not be used on fish that are to be eaten. If i were you, i would let my friends eat it and watch them choke to their demise.

I have eaten snakeheads before, but I will never eat the ones I kept, even though I dont have any Snakeheads right now.

One time, a buddy of mine brought a friend to my place. My buddy knew well enough to not joke around me and my fish, but his friend saw my Giant Snakehead said "Hey man, Im hungry. Let me take him and cook him." Needless to say, I pointed to his face and said to him "Get the **** out of my house RIGHT NOW!"

I dont mind jokes being made towards me, but to joke about eating my fish....thats just way over the line.

oh and the fate of the Micropeltes, I donated him to a Koi pond. He was so trained on pellets that the Tilapia originally intended to be feeders ended up growing to maturity also.

If a fish or any animal dies of old age or disease, it's generally not a good idea to eat them. There was a member here who couldn't sell his fish, so he ate them. I know...sounds horrible.

I prefer pla chon daed diew (Sun dried Channa Straita). Although I did have an uncle who made pla chado daed diew (Sun dried Channa Micropeltes). Considering the fish he made it from was 5 kilos and that he kept it in one piece rather than make it 4 seperate pieces, the pla chado daed diew was massive.
