I think Yabbies is just an Australian term, and they are called Crayfish or Crawdads in the US.

they aren't good tank mates as they usually end up as food or hide under a rock all the time. Cichlids love crustaceans as food but not as tank mates most like them alot they taste great and are fun to catch great food for them to they may not eat them when there hard but when they molt and become soft there just a big squishy thing that tastes good to the cichlid
