Color aside, the changes in Brick are subtle but noticeable from years 1 thru 2. His head is larger, the gill plate extends further along and is thicker. Also his lateral line is more pronounced. And the obvious, more bulk. His coloration now resembles a cross between his baby colors and the extreme red from a year ago. His scaling is very textured and as you can see his dark pigmentation is really prominent. He's a little under 3 inches thick at the head.

See y'all next year with this.

So I was on work break and started arranging stuff for Patch and Kong's tank refresh. Decided to re-measure the synos, since they seemed larger than I posted. Plus it was easy since my rainbow Pepper has run them up against the glass and off the floor. So for the sake of accuracy, the real numbers for Cash and Spot are

Cash is 8 inches, not 7.
Spot is now 7 inches, a surprise.

So big Red decides to stick his nose in everything while the ruler is against the glass. I'm thinking I didn't like the last head measurement, didn't seem consistent (he kept moving too much). So of course the second I put it up against the glass where he is, Brick starts bending his body into an "S" (he does this every time). But I actually underestimated his head size. So again, for accuracy:

Brick's head is actually slightly over 3 inches wide, not under. Well duh. He doesn't seem to care when I measure him from the front, its from the side he doesn't like. Go figure.

So next year I'll be sure to get the most recent measurements!

I'll try to get a current pic of Pepper (if he'll slow down!)

You get used to seeing your fish in a large tank and stop thinking about their size. It wasn't until I had to transport Bobo that I realized how big he really is. He's heavy as a brick when you get him out of the water. Gave me a good bath too. I was surprised at how spiny and hard his fins are, they remind me of a Perch.

Pepper is getting tall bodied too, that's when I was like 'wait a minute.' I compared his size with Brick's mouth, that's how I knew he had grown.

I hope I never have to transport Brick...it would be a nightmare.
