T pasiones is likely what you have. However I have heard of T helleri also being called a yellow firemouth as well. Also I could see a common name of yellow firemouth being slapped on T sp " mixteco " gold. Pictures would help . In any case they are all great fish .
I am currently seeking T pasiones and wish i lived in yuor area so I could check out the fish at that store !. Right now have a few T ellioti that have recently spawned , T mixteco " gold" , and T socolofi . I would like to get some pasioens and aureus as well. Great group of CA's .
Good luck wit hthme hopefully you'll end up with a pair and some spawns !

could be a number of species. That's the problem with common names unfortunately. I once bought a "yellow firemouth" that turned out (as ID'd by Rusty Wessell) as a gold morph T. aureus. T. pasionis and T. helleri are also possibilities.

ElectricBlueSeanBurch, Jeff Rapps currently has T. pasionis available in 2-2.5" size for $12.50 each. That's where I got mine from over the summer. They were about 1" when I got them and the larger one is now about 3".

Wow, this thread really took off over the weekend. Sorry I didn't get back on here sooner. The pics posted in this thread are very similar to what I have. I tried getting some pics yesterday, but they're really shy. I need to get some other fish, besides a pleco, in there with them, I think. Here is another link with pics that are very close to what they look like, although mine are still pretty small, about 2-3 inches. They are quite mellow. Was told by the store owner that they're less aggressive than meekis, and the meekis I have proved it when I initially tried to put them in my 125.

If anyone is ever in my area, I bought them at Roe Aquarium in Rock Island, Ill. Great place for cichlids.

Should add that I'm pretty sure on this ID because they have the "black gullet" as noted in the link, and from what I've seen the aureus and helleri don't. It's really noticeable in the second pic of that link.
