youve give me a realy good idea for my 10g clowns aquarium you could use chrome paint but couldnt you hot glue a pice of tin foil along the gutter to work as a reflector just an idea
 
great! i'm glad i could help! yea, i'm sure tin foil would work well too, though it's usually little matte. i really didn't need any reflector, the gutter works quite well. the only problem that i've run into is that the small plastic clips that hold the light in the gutter break pretty easily, just a heads up, other than that i've been very satisfied with my DIY light. good luck and be sure to post some pics!
 
thanks for the heads up i might drill some holes in the guter and zip tie the rope lights in or i might put the rope lights in and put a long thin pice of plexi glass infront of them and glue it in so the rope lights rest on the plexi glass just toying with the idea wen i do it i will post some pics just got to get my camera fixed (water damege) thanks for the idea anyway
 
yea, i also thought about drilling holes and zip tying them, but decided to use the clips, but seeing as most of the clips are broken now, i may switch to the zip ties. also if you can splurge on money for led rope lights i would. the standard rope lights (the ones i got just because the led ones weren't readily available at the time) do get kind of warm, and the plexiglass may restrict airflow to cool them, just a heads up
 
yea didnt think about that the rope lights i am getting off ebay for £12.99 (uk) i am not shore if they are the led ones but its the only supplyer i can find in the uk that doesnt need paypal i plan on using the zip ties i cant find the clips so zip ties will have to do wen i get started ill post some pics
 
thanks for the info i have orderd thr rope lights just waiting for them to come i will be going out looking for some guter tomorow
