I am somehow doubting the catfish for this Aro fin damage :)

Clean water parameters, adding Aquarium salt and slightly increasing the water temp can cure this. If its really fin rot and its not coming down then you may need medications soon.

Small aros get spooked easy and go biserk sometimes, bashing of every thing in the aquarium. This my happen when your not there to see, that's one possible scenario for the tattered fins. The other more likely cause is that you have ammonia present. This will cause deteriorated fin edges. High nitrates can cause fin issues with aros also. Test your water before your next waterchange and post them. Forget about pH...not important. Silver aros do fine in high pH. A consistent pH is all that's important. Whatever your tap water pH is what you need to go with. Messing with your pH will cause way more problems. I hope you realize silver aros get huge. Mine hit 22 inches at the 1 year old mark. You'll need to upgrade to a very large aquarium soon. My aro makes my 96" × 40" aquarium seem small.
This is defiantly a grow out tank for about a year. Been saving to build an apox 2500-3000 gallon this year. Thanks for the info

Sorry for the lack of response. I'm SE of San Antonio and we've been dealing with Harvey. PH is at/around 7 everything else is good. With the big water changes I've seen a difference in his appearance and his attitude. I'll be changing water at least 1 a week from now on at about 30%. Before I was doing about 25% every 2 weeks. Thanks everyone for the help

I agree, master shifu never leaves the surface and jack doesn't move unless there is food envolved. They're kinda of like neighbors that wave but never talk. I've had the aro for about 3 weeks so I think he was stressed and that's what was the culprit for his fin issues. He's also moving about the tank now, as appossed to hiding behind the filter dump 24/7
