Your thoughts on recent mini tiger boom

a lfs that i go to sometimes has a hand-full of these little guys about 1 cm a piece, no clue on price but if it's reasonable i might pick up 2 or 3

Believe me guys, i went looking for farms, posed as a buyer. They are are not captive bred. A year ago i saw thousands of them no bigger than an inch in Bangkok.

I do not believe they are farm bred either. But the chances of catching such small fish in such large quantities seems near impossible. Imagine trying to catch a fish in your aquarium. Now imagine a .25" fish in a river. Do you have any insight on how they're caught?

i remember seeing a video where fisherman put cyanide in the water. it briefly paralyzes fish and they just scoop them up by the hundreds. i'm sure they use traps rather than chasing the fish with nets.

Not Dat specific, but watching local Thai fishermen gives me a few ideas, the put nets across the river or swim and catch anything and everything. Nothing goes to waste. They ferment small fish to make sauce, eat bigger fish as fish and sell anything interesting.
Corral areas of lakes and rivers using massive nets laid on the bottom for a few days then lift them up at the edges and walk towards the banks.
I'm not sure how the Dats are caught TBH. Although it's got ot be with nets. I will ask someone next time I'm at Chatuchak market.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are being bred.

But even then, current demand and situation doesn't really help wild stocks and we need to increase our knowledge on means that can be done to breed them in captivity.

in singapore,they are buying like crazy,almost all farm and lfs selling it,some are buying in bulks,like 50-100,i did saw a guy buying 1000pc and i myself purchase 500pc,it could cost as low as S$1.80 each.my estimtion there are more them 10,000pc in sg.till today date,i still see people buying and buying.question is....

how many manage to keep it alive?
how many nice clean 3bar left in future?
wont be easy to take care this batch compare to previous batch which is ard 1inches.
and i can see,not more then 100pc in sg left that come with clean nice 3bar for the previous batch.

my advise is if u dont know how to take care of it,pls dont buy,wasting money and wasting the fish life,pay a little more to buy bigger stable pc.is not that simple to take care that what u guys think.
