I am planning on adding a zig zag eel (or two) to my 55 gallon aquarium. I already spoke with some friends and they said it should be safe to add with my current stock. However, I am confused about their size. Some sources say 8 inches and other sources say three feet. How big do they get? Can I keep a pair?

Zig Zags stay small so you're good. Tire Tracks and Fire Eels get three feet.
You should be able to keep a pair. I don't see why not. Eels are usually compatible together.

Thank you. Fire eels would be too big for my tank right?

Way too big
You can also go with peacock eel, starry night eel, spagetti eel, tangiyaki eel needs a lil salt not too much, man there's alot but no fire eels they way too big man I've seen some around 2" some 36" once a 4foot

zig zags should be kept in small groups. i would keep a min of 3 while generally not aggressive as others they still do better in groups. it spreads out the dominant fishes aggression between multiple fish not just 1.

just make sure they arent tire tracks. zigs and tts get confused all the time.
