That's not always the case. IME red doesn't always bring out the markings on every poly. BUT for most it does. I've had a handful of Polys that never seem to fully settle down. Always look dark/washed out even tho it was on red sand. It seems like some bichirs just need a different color substrate to pop. My friend had a sp. Dabola on light color(beige/tan) sand but the fish was still really dark(almost black)!
For sure. I'm totally get what you're saying. If it wasn't so hard and expensive. I'd get red garnet or even try the infamous 'Hao Orange' sand. That was awesome!

Thanks polyaddict- I saw this b4. It was unsettled but colors came in laters. I'll try to find.

Cohazard had a couple polyperus sp. Dabola on YouTube as well. It was unsettled like this. Just search under that term and it will appear. I've noticed some sp. Dabola get this way, but the green and brown colors come in.
