Prazi in the water works well with no need to soak in food. Just a fyi.
2 much water to treat, im cheap lol…on auto drips also so itell just dilute quickly. I think i might just put em in the main tank now with ur recommendation. Honestly prazi/metro soaked food has always been the extent of meds/precaution for me over the yrs with rays/cats. Having some bad luck with a bloated ornate so i think im overly paranoid with the new batch today ??
. Prob fine with the drips/clean water like u first mentioned.
Re homed a few fish and dedicated this 5’x3’x2’ 230g to a “proper” poly grow out tank. 500g was a bit too much for 8-9” fish. One day they can return. Will be easier to target feed the wee guys in here… still waiting on my 3 buckets of garnet for both tanks ?… bout a month to go ??…
Almost looks like theres fish in it ??… 3 Endli, 1 wild Lap… its a start… PBB Nile next on the list ?… can’t wait to get the garnet in here…
Fattening up the new guys… original Endli is def. the tank boss… keeps the larger lap in check even, im surprised… time for an intervention also ??… have a new species on the way, then i gotta stop for a while lol…

I've never been a poly guy, only ever had a single large Ornate that I kept for many years and sadly left behind in Ontario. Mine was also very active and cruised about at all levels in his tank. Terrific fish.
So...what is the deal with this garnet substrate? Seems like every poly tank I see on here uses it, and I don't see it used in very many other tanks. It may be nicer than plain white pool filter sand, but I'm not in love with it. What's the appeal? Strictly cosmetic?

The colors and patterns of the polys seem more defined and better with garnet sand versus pool sand for instance.
I get that, but it's equally true for any darker substrate vs. a lighter one. Virtually any fish looks brighter and more vivid over a dark substrate, and in front of a dark background. But Garnet seems to have almost a cult following among poly keepers.
The black sand didn't produce better colors than the garnet sand, according to a past post in the poly section. It seemed to make the polys lighter base color too dark or didn't show a certain color shade. Experiment with pictures of polys light sand versus black sand vs garnet sand, and garnet sand was considered the winner. https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...-sand-experiment-results.683674/#post-7696602

On a side note, not all garnet sand colors are made equal, so there is even a brand of garnet sand that's considered the best.
