A gulper catfish would work but I wouldn’t go about feeding live foods unless you raise them yourself so you know they’re healthy.

Red wolf fish is one of the best predator options for that size imo.
You’ll have trouble keeping it with tankmates that it won’t kill though.

As a whole, it’s advised against feeding live fish for risk of disease transfer.

At 12+ in, I’d be hesitant to put one in a 4 foot tank.
With the exception of eel-like fishes, I wouldn’t do anything that gets past 8 inches; 10 for something really inactive.

Plenty of polys are good options, but they aren’t super active except at feeding time. Then again, most predators aren’t.

If you’re looking for a really active predator, look into a shoal of exodon tetras. They are basically 3 inch piranhas.

What kind of cichlids would you want?
Any of the large, predatory types would get too big, but the smaller guys still have the personality.
