even when your knife is fully grown it will be extremly slender and it's lateral height will be small. You're looking at a cat that both parent species can get to 6ft. in the wild. As stated before mine is at 28 1/2 inches at less than 2 years of age. Go for a minimum footprint on your tank of 4ft. x 10ft. even then just pray he never gets more than 4 ft. not sure anyone has ever raise one completely as they seem to be a relatively new hybrid. In the catfish forum at the top the post catfish sticky i have some info on them. Expect with proper feeding and housing they will outgrow either parent fish. I wouldn't be suprised if they hit 5 ft and 100+lbs. in their lifetime. With that said some hybrids grow to more than double the parent species size like ligers for instance. largest tigers are around 600-700lbs. and largest lions are around 500-600lbs. the liger is a hybrid of the two and can reach wieghts of over 1200 lbs. so who knows what we have on our hands. They might get to 200 lbs. in aquariums. We just dont' know till someone has had one in proper conditions for 20 + years.

oh yeah, point being do you trust having a 40 inch slender fish with a 62+ inch fish that is exremely wide and bulky? i have seen a 15 lb. rtc eat a 5 lbs. large mouth bass. Took him 2 weeks to digest it and finally swallow the tail. Man that was a stinky tank! RTC was around 27 inches, and the large mouth bass was around 18-20 inches.

Good point. Then I'll just have to take him out when he gets larger. So for a fish of this magnatude, would you suggest an aquarium or a pond? For that matter, which would be cheaper being it'll need quite a bit of moving/turning room?

Then a pond it is. Necro, since you were nominated by zoo york, what would be your recommendations on building one? What do I need in order to build one?

there are many other people in here that would be better suited to help. I have only used preformed tubs from local farm supply stores. I have never actually made a pond. If you are going to make it and not get a preformed cattle trough then I would get some heavy gauge pond liner and plenty of 2x4s. You would need to find a space that you are going to build it and design your pond around that. You can use the 2x4s or you can use brick. I have seen both used. Look through the threads here in indoor ponds to give you some ideas, and pm the members that have ponds you really like and ask what they did. I would try to make your pond at least 8-10ft. x 4-6ft x2-3ft. tall. And if you get one of the cattle troughs good luck on getting anything bigger than the 6 ft dia through your doorway without taking out walls. Look through all the posts in this section. They inspired me when I got to work on mine. Feel free to ask more questions. Also be aware that the spot where it will be needs to be able to support several tons of wieght in one spot. You might have to renforce your floors if it is not going to be in a basement/garage with a concrete floor. Good luck
