If you go to your LFS, they usually keep their wood in some sort of container, and there's always a ton of little pieces that have broken off in the bottom. They usually will just let you have it for free. Throw a bunch in a media bag and put it in your sump or filter (make sure there isn't sand or anything on it) and you should have lots of tannins! Malaysian driftwood usually releases a lot...

Some woods can change the pH, so you might want to do a little 'test in a bucket' first. That's what I did. And the tannis supposably helps 'relax' the fish. *The thing I noticed that I didn't like, when taking pix with my cheap camera, it picked up lots of yellow hues from the tannis that I don't see. When taking pix of my tanks with out tannis in them, they were totally different.(Made my blueish fish look purple!, and the sand looked yellow and black in pix , even though it's actually white and black. Very strange...
All tannins from ANY wood or other source will drop your ph DEPENDING on your kh. If your kh is high, they will do nothing, even if you pour an entire bottle of blackwater extract in your tank.
