lol yea. its the mopani wood. it turns nasty and will stain water like a tea bag. its not good for aquariums.

Tank is doing great!! I actually rearranged it again last night... not sure I'm feel'n it, but we'll see.. Hummm I think you got jipped, I paid $11 for 143lbs.. yeah, you got jipped!!!

I saw the new tank on FB, that picture does not do it any justice.. I would have never thought it was a 300g by looking at it... What kind of rock do you get?? You have a thread going here??

Interesting. I have 3 pieces of malaysian, 4 pieces of mopani and a piece of manzanita in my 90 gallon and the mopani is the only wood my L204 will eat. lol He must have missed the memo.....

Every piece of wood Ive ever used on about 6 different tanks gets slimy, then the slime turns white and my plecos and rainbow shark eat it like crazy. Like fish caviar

I have three pieces of mopani in my 60 and the tannins seem to make my angel, rams and tetras pretty happy. In typical blackwater fashion.

Love the tank by the way!! Great job

Actually to both of you!(assuming that's yours in your avatar) I love seeing how people scape their tanks and how they change over time.

I usually soak my wood for a month or so before putting it in the tank, but your right, the mopani still leeches. Hell, one piece i have is probably 6 years old and I think it still leeches a little

I considered it as well because everytime I do a water change most of the tannins get removed. Looks better two or three days later which means I get abut 3-4 days of just right. Fish really seem to love the tannins though. The darker i make that tank, the more their colors seem to pop.

You just want peice of drift wood?? That's gonna have to be one hell of a piece dude!! Tannins helps replicate their natural environment better, well depending on the fish and where it came from of course...

The leaves in my tank have really grown on me, and I think with the extract it would look awesome.. I'm almost sure it wouldn't be murky.. but just as clear as the water is now, just dark clear water... I think.

No carbon here. My peaceful sa/ce community tank seems to love the tannins, but most of those fish are pretty chill, angels, rams, small plecos, etc.
I do run purigen in my systems when Im traveling alot to help my wife out keeping water quality up, but when Im home I just let the 60 go without and the fish really seem to like the darker environment the tannins bring.....
