Evaporation would be a factor; but 10 inches is a lot. I have seen similar drop in water line in our pond and fountain level; initially ruled it to be evaporation; but considering in winter it was a long shot; figureed it would be a leak; but could not find any wet pspots arount the fountain/pond .. have done this test three times with similar loss of water + no wetness around.

On the 3rd time around; I was watching the pipes circulate water and not a drip; left after a 3 hour observation. strangely a few hours later, the water has lower and no wet patches outside as well.

If you figure out the mystery of missing water, do share.

should def add some submerged ceramic media in the sump. cant go wrong with extra bio filtration.
Ya mate.. i managed to find these plastic crates that are used to haul vegetables.. they seem to find the purpose.. but not before i fix the missing water issue :)

nice, after those goldfish survive the test, they will become feeder goldfish!
ohhh no mate.. don't wanna do that.. will remove em post the testing period.. :)

ok, so I have just went through the entire progress of this, and looks like I came in right at the end of it. I cant wait to see the arowana in there. Looks absolutely amazing!!!!!
Thanks mate.. cheers

Better hold of on adding those Aro's, I think you're already way overstocked there.
:) LOL

Progress is still coming smoothly! I'd most likely extend the pipe, it'd be easier than adding more water.
Thanks kyle.. yeah guess i will do just about that..

Kaya dat z jus massive nd breathtaking in realll.. Stood der dumbstruk watching goldies.. Cant wait to c arowz nd friends cruising inside.. Ammazin job Kaya.. Cheerzzz
:) The only other mfker to see the pond build from scratch in person..

Hi..The basic design is from David's Red Arowana Pondarium..

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=325084

David has used the sump as a filter.. but i'm using the sump to stow my heaters and pump. The bottom drain and top skimmer move water to the sump from the main tank. In the larger compartment of the sump there will be 2 X 14,000 LPH motors that move water to 2 X Gardening Bio Filters that can handle upto 15,000 LPH.. The filtered water will be pumped back into the main tank.. and thus the cycle.. hope this helps :)
Is it possible the drain is leaking? Does the drain go to the city sewer system? You would never see the leak in this case...

No mate.. the drains goto the garden.. nothin like that.. i even opened the drains and checked.. no leaks there..

you can always re-grout the gaps in between tiles. but then again, you have to take the water out... :(
:) ya.. but jus goin to give it like a weeks time to see how much water goes down.. called my mason to come over and have a look..

Guys sorry not been in town the last two days.. Anita thanks for feeding the fishies :) Things have not been really smooth.. I lost a goldfish from the 4 that was released.. and I don't know if it is a leak or what to call it.. The water level has dropped some 10 inches from the day it was filled up.. Just goin to give it some more time and see how much the water level drops.. i cant see any visible wet patches around the tank.. :( after all this.. this is def a lil disappointing.. will post pics in the morning..
sounds like a leak and i do not think its evaporation..its way too much for short period of time, you do not see see wetspot because the water leaching out into the ground..if you just let it ride with that much of water lost..you will be paying it in the long run.
i do not remember you did any leak test prior to this, i hope you can can this taken care of..worst case is not too bad at this early stage..its reseal your tank
im sure you can pull this thru and goodluck

holly molly you have to get a water from one of those truck?
looks like WC is going to be major thing to do and i hope you dont get to do it often
:) Ya its a lot of water.. its not very expensive.. about 15$.. so i'd prob do it like once a month.. i'm actually buying this one hp motor tomorrow.. my plan is to use the water from here in the garden on a daily basis and top up what was used from our own fresh water supplies at home..

does your area always rain ? it provide good water top-ups too ,maybe some mods on the roof design, but you have to make overflow drainage pipe to prevent over flooding

If you want to test whether it is evaporation or a leak, then add salt. Test your level of salinity, then wait a couple days. You will have some evaporation, even with a leak, so you will need to refill the pond with freshwater before retesting salinity. If it is just evaporation then salinity will be the same as salt does not evaporate, so nowhere for it to go. If it is a leak then salinity will decrease as salt will leak with the water.
