I used too think it had to have 3 spots too. Then I "opened my mind"(try it) and learned that hardly any if any at all Trimacs have only 3 spots. The name comes from the usual 3 more defined dark spots going from the head to the middle of the body to the base of the tail. Look at the Trimac VRWC posted and you can see what I mean......3 distinct spotstoo many spot for a three cichlid
Trimacs have more than 3 spots. The "3 spot cichlid" is a Guatemalan (If I remember correctly) nickname for the 3 large spots, not meaning "there are only 3."too many spot for a three cichlid
