3 that I picked up from fellow hobbyist last week. Originally came from Wes. Currently in 20gal tank w/ AC50. Previous owner got them to the dark side, so I'm trying to get them back to the pellets feeding side. So far, they taste and spit...

So right off the back I have noticed that it has benfit the Xingu extremly being in the tank alone with out any other sp in with them. Also there pecking order has picked up. I have alway's noticed two of the 5 alway's seperating. But there is one that I hand measured the appearing biggest is a brut. I really do like these little ones there showing great sign's of growth but have not started eating like some of my older bass that I also feed live and Jumbo.
Same here. When I first got them all ten were in the 55g. Got them on pellets right away but three couldn't get to the pellets quick enough and by day 5 they were smaller and chased around. Removed them to the 10g and now they are the same size as the others. There was a forth in the group that was a slow poke but I decided to let him tough it out. His fins got shreaded pretty bad but today he's like one of the boys. Slightly smaller but no damage and they don't pick on him anymore. He knows his spot in the tank. I call him Daniel-san. I just got to find a good time to marry all ten back together.
Also my observation is after WC they are more aggressive. It was noticed in both the 10g and 55g. You WC guys must not sleep at night...haha.

In the air and I ain't comin down!
I did my W/C after my last post. Unfortinatly depending on how you look at it I am home 24/7 I was laid off last July 2010 so I get rest inbetween W/C. I usually throw feeders in after W/C for two reasons one the water is fresh which usually gives the uneaten feeders a longer chance to acclimate to the high temps. Two trying to keep the aggression curved by keeping them feed so no real reason to fight but of course fighting between cichla is a must and reality.

I also noticied that I didn't list I keep the feeder's in a 10g tank as I have always used this method. I buy 200+ feeders and will do this 1 - 2 tims a week. This go around I am going to keep the Xingu only on feeders and grow them out as I did my first little ones I raised the Peruvian Mono's. I am very PRO FEEDER when it comes to Cichla to me I will never try to take the predator nature out of any animal I own. I only need to control it and use it to it's full potential. I think young cichla need this exercise daily during this time of growth for more then one reason.

When you do massive changes very often , does that disrupt the beneficial bacteria enviroment in the tank in any way ?

I normally do 30 % every 10 days roughly. It can vary from 1 week to 2 weeks depending on my personal schedule. I will make it a point to do them weekly once the fish get bigger.

I'm not officially in the xingu grow out event but I just got a 2 inch wild Rio Meta orino the other day from Rapps. In a way I will be participating in the growout event from the sideline :)

I got my orino gorging himself on Hikari food sticks. Pellet training took just 2 days.

As for this xingu contest....What if 1 of you ends up with a pair and start spawning some babies :headbang2

Very nice. Everyone notice the difference between pellet only vs live or big WC vs small WC. Just an observation...too early to jump to conclusion.

No all the BB is in the filter's and on the decoration's. If there is anything of a noticable change it will be your O2 which I compensate for with over airation.

This is good enough for your set up it should be the normal. When your ready you can if you like bump it up to 50% a week and then 50% 2x a week.

I do think now after my experience with Orino's they are the easiest to switch over.
