Yes I still have both Wallago leerii:So do you still have your wallago ? How big is it? I think an 8 foot fish in a home aquarium would be a first. Maybe you should get a RTC and make things interesting. Best wishes. Thanks
Oh, I always was mistaken and thought the aquarium trade was full of gigas. good to know we have failed to represent the true monster yet.It could be that Arapaima are normally brought in as babies and those that make it become accustomed to the ph in the wholesalers tanks. They then move to the retailer and again those that make it have become adjusted to the higher ph occurring in most of the USA and Canada (As a opposed to their native Peru/Brasil water).
It is really hard to say the differences in size between the two species since I am not sure there are any Arapaima gigas actually alive today in any public aquarium, fish breeding facility or hobbyists tanks to compare them with to A. arapaima.
However it might possibly explain the claimed enormous sizes of fish from 200 - 300 years ago compared to the max 3 metre size of Arapaima today.
Here is the article in PFK suggesting there are no A. gigas in the trade today.Oh, I always was mistaken and thought the aquarium trade was full of gigas. good to know we have failed to represent the true monster yet.
Please have some common senseI'm sure this has been asked many times before but how much does it cost you to maintain it and feed them for a year?
