Water change done, now sitting at 5ppm. Will test sunday and see.

I think I might have figured out what I am going to do. Might involve braces and a wall lol.

Hosta is shooting up a new leaf! This would be #3 in 5 months. The other 2 newer ones have white tips/edges. Online it may be to much light? I dont see how.

Mint I picked up saturday from a job. Mint is hardy as heck. It was mid low 30's outside, pulled it and it sat in the truck and got transplanted into the container 10 hrs later. Its ALREADY growing and it shooting up stalks from the water. Like I said before, I think mint is a mistake! I just cant stop though!

I dunno what this is, bought it at homedepot. The big leaf right in front of your face is the newest addition. Brand new they are very shiny and have purple veins underneath. As time goes by, the veins go away and the leaf loses its gloss. So far its a great plant, it seems every new leaf is twice the size of the last new leaf. This new one is 4"wx9" long!

Hey guys.. I read the first 10 pages and felt compelled to post up some questions. I've thought about doing this for a long time actually. I don't want to do away with mechanical filtration, but I would like the benefits that live plants have to offer an aquarium. My big concern is that I'm horrible with getting plants to grow. I couldn't even get duckweed to grow lol. Well it grew for about 3 weeks then vanished, I think the big issue was it would get sucked under the HOB water return.

Anyway, I'd like to try duckweed again as well as maybe some water lilies. They will be added to a 75g with an AC110 and a Aquatop CF-400UV. My biggest concern is the UV from the canister filter. Will that interfere with the plants growth? Are people placing the water lilies in the AC110 still or would it be best to add like a specimen container and drill some holes in it for the water movement?

UV wont do anything to the plants. If it did your fish would be dead.

I havent seen anyone place lilies in a filter. Are they not pond plants and their purpose is to root in the substrate/pot and the leaves comes to the surface which would make their stems weak and small making it not work for a hob? <-- nice sentence.

Went to my parents house and my mother had one of these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spathiphyllum in a vase with just water. Loads of roots, had to cut it out of the vase to even get it out. I took it home because she has way too many plants (they keep spreading ya know) and tossed it in the cordoned off part of the turtle tank. He could nip at the roots if he wanted, but I dont think he will. We shall see how it goes I suppose. Pics eventually.

I'm up near Green Bay but I got the lily from my parents indoor plants in southern WI. Most of my family lives in "chicagoland" though so perhaps I'll drop some off somewhere for you someday.

Yeah that's my snapping turtle. He is an interior decorator for his own tank. This week he managed to pry the suction cups off the side of the tank that were holding his heater on.
I'm not really ever over in that area though but if I ever am and remember I suppose.

Suction cup HAHAHA. Mine doesnt get a heater anymore, he doesnt even like the filter, atleast once a month I am fixing it. He even stuck his head out the top of the tank and bit my pothos vine in half. Mine decorates to, he has 2 rocks that weigh more than him and everyweek I hear it grinding on the glass as he pushes it around. I love him he is awesome. My girlfriend, not so much anymore haha. She gave it to me when it still had its egg sack years ago, now that its bigger he stares at her with the "i cant wait to kill you" look.
