hornwort is a huge nutrient hog so ya it would be the first to go down hill from lack of nitrates. Weird your pothos are not growing roots. I can put a stem in the water and in 1 day see it growing out. It is possible its in shock, in the beginning I was lucky to get 1 leaf after 3 months. But now they grow great, dont give up in time you'll regret it because you will have a huge vine haha.

The hornworts had been rowing great and have manage to take the onslaught of the cichlids and gold fish. So you think the hornworts would be on of the first plants to show lack of nitrates... interesting.
I was gone for the weekend..... and thus i didn't feed the fish. How quick can the nitrate level drop? I will see if the hornworts react to the fish food returning.

Wow you got roots on the pothos after one day! I was given the clips from a florist for free, maybe got a bad batch, i clipped some vines from a friend this weekend so i have more pothos.

Your plants prob got shocked cause they were clipped.

Nitrates dont dip fast unless you have a forest growing. Pending on the lighting the hornwort could be growing faster than it can be fed. If it was me, id add nitrate to the tank and see how the hornwort responds.

Agreed. The level of plants to noticeable reduction in DOC's is pretty high IME. I have my 125 gallon planted now and on drip and slowly the plants are dieing off since i've converted the tank over to drip. My project now only consists of my 10 gallon and 120 gallon tank only (not on a drip system).

Is that before or after the Clown Loaches and Bala Sharks make a meal of them ? I've had terrible luck with Pothos, though I may try again. There's no room in my AC110 because I have it loaded with two big sponges. Another thing about Pothos they are a real PITA to clean the dirt off the roots and the roots are so entwined with one another, they are easy to break. Is it better to just use the leaf and stem instead of whole root so they can grow new cleaner ones ?

How do you add nitrates? Can I just increase the feed or leave decaying leaves in the tank to produce the nitrates to see if it changes the hornworts?

Jk47 what is DOC's? Have you tried anything to prevent the plants in your 125 gallon tank from dieing off? (If i understand correctly in your 125 gal tank you have a drip hydroponic system that is feeding plants and your submerged plants are slowly dying)

the final plant container. Funny is that its the exact as my original that I scraped. I should have just listened to my gut.
Pump will pump water into a 20 gallon tank which will then go into a filter sock or floss whatever i have at the moment. Then proceed into the top container following it down into the second container which then dumps back into the other end of the tank. The tank wont be filled up very much, I dont need 200lbs sitting on the corner of the tank, plants will be inside there also which ones not sure yet and used as a mech filtration. Give me 2-4 weeks to finish it HAHAHA.
