I just got these exact socks for a sump I'm getting setup for my 135. I took a spare piece of 3/8" Lexan and cut a 6 1/2" hole in it for the sock to hang from. Now just curious about how to fill the surrounding area...
Should I just pack that area with bio-balls?
I use that area for my heater. Then the water flows over a baffle and into my bio-ball area. Then over another baffle and into my pump area.

Hmmm...okay. Thanks Egon. My sump is weird in that it's taller than it is long, so i actually have around 12" under the sock, then i have a small baffled section and then the pump area. I'll have to snap some pics after work today so you can get a visual.

My first set of socks came in yesterday, I'm excited to get them set up. I don't have a standard sump, but a oceanic trickle 150. I'm modifying the thing to accept filter socks, but there's barely enough room to fit one 4" sock in there... I decided to sock it instead of using one of my ocean clear cansiters. I think I'll add my cascade 500 to the mix once I'm done using it in my growout just for polishing. I got 200 micron socks and I'm concerned about the size of particle it will allow through.

I got 200 Micron on mine now, but I tried 100 Micron. All they do is fill up till they overflow, all are brand new. I'm not exaggerating when I say the 100 can only support a trickle of my water.... For me They make a better bucket than a filter

LOL I agree with this. I haven’t tried doubling up the socks by putting the 200 inside the 100. That might help the flow, theoretically, by stopping the bigger particles in the 200 micron bag that normally would clog up the 100 micron...........

Haven’t tried this yet so I really don't know?

That's how I tried if first. Then set up a t fitting with a ball valve to run to a seperate 100 Micron sock to try and polish the water a little more. That's how I got the trickle flow to fill the 100 sock. Ripped it all out and just run dual 200 socks for the time being....

How much luck are people having with running 100 micron socks? I want my water to be really clear. Who want bad water clarity? Not me. I am just a little worried with 2000 gallons of water flowing through everything that they could turn into buckets vs filters. Tank 450 gallons, 2100+ GPH pump, planning on running 7"x16" 2 bags, I can run an FX5 into my tank to polish the water but why bother when a sock should be able to do it and I can use the fx5 else where. From all my reading I would really like a 50 micron sock to really polish the water but I dont think I could run those all the time and I have too much water flow, I was thinking like dscort said running 4 socks with main flow going to 2, 200 or 100 micron socks and then 1 or 2 50 micron socks polishing everything really well with less water flow. .

How well does 200 micron socks polish the water for water clarity? Like the idea you had, also what I was thinking, wonder if I can make it work or if its worth it at this point.

I use 100 micro socks on my 225g. I have dual drains into one sock. I am running (2) quiet one 6000's for around a 10x turnover rate. My socks dont overflow unless they are dirty and need to go in the wash. Water is super clear.
