Got a 7'x2'x18" pond liner tank in the garage now. The in house tank only leaked at the top so I dunno what its problem is. Got the plants setup in all today, looks nice I am jealous. Still gotta protect the plants from the coldish nights though. Prob cover it with some clear plastic tonight. Tank has 3 heaters so she will stay warm! Ill try to get a final setup pic tonight so for now just the plants I pulled pics.

Dumb cane, highly recommend to wash ur hands after touching this thing. Few weeks ago I got some in my eye haha.

Full shot. I have 6mil plastic hanging from the joists to cut down on drafts and to have my own little "cave"

Full shot "green house". Threw some clear plastic over the plants so the coldish temps dont mess with the plants. Here they will be nice and toasting with a side of humidity! I have holes at the top to let air circulate.

After this now I want a green house :(

Lots of great info in this thread. I just planted some spider plants and golden pothos into my 55g last night, can't wait to see how this works out.

That is what I have the spider plants rooted quickly adn started growing within 2 weeks but now are pretty big (4 months) but the leaves are turning white. My pathos clipping took forever to root (1 to 2 months) but now 4 motnhs later are taking off. the philadendrons are also doing well. How are your plants? Anyone know why my spider plants are turning white?

I didn't read through all the pages and only read the first op.

I don't know if the pothos is doing all the work or the duckweed is. I will admit floating plants are a BEAST at nitrate reduction.

Bleaching of the leaves usually means to much bright light/direct sun light. Mine did the same thing. I left the main plant at my parents house and my mom has it by the west window so it only gets a few hrs of direct a day, that sucker is looking STRONG! Doesnt need much I guess.

The aquarium is next to a north window so the spider plants aren't getting direct sunlight. Also the mother plant i have does get direct sunlight from a south window and is green. I have heard that direct sunlight does bleach Pothos. I hope the spider plants don't start dying.... but it would give the pothos that are growing more room. lol I have read and seen that pothos that grow upward get huge leaves. I am going to tie them to climb vertical when the vine gets long enuf. Anyone have their Pothos growing vertically upward?

If a plant is not adapted to sunlight it will burn. Plants are like human skin, you cant live in Alaska then go to florida in mid summer and lay on the beach for 1 hr and not expect something bad. (been there done that, not alaska though) If the plant IS getting to much light, play around with ideas. see if you can block some light, be it a white piece of paper behind it etc.

Iv never seen a bleached pothos only burned. My arrowhead at first bleached out, but then went green and couldnt get enough light.

My pothos dont grow upward yet, to much moving around. But you can make them any direction you want as long as they get their light!
