They don't have to be dipped into an acid bath to retain the color...my aunt breeds parrots, and dyes them...she just adds food coloring to the tank, and after a week of 10% daily water changes and adding more water/food coloring the fish come out with a slight tint....and she sells them to kids around her neighborhood... 'Jelly Bean' parrotfish

Well for starters those are probably just SB Pink Convicts and not Parrots. Second while your aunt might be doing it that way, that doesn't mean its how its done in the business. They do dip them in acid and its horrible.

100% sure they are parrots. Google jelly bean parrots

i've never worked in a commercial fishing place so i wouldn't really know how it's done commercially... i'm sure someone here says they have and probably claims to know... just throwing in my two cents on how i've seen it done..

There are two fish called Jellybean Parrots: dyed blood parrots and dyed/undyed Short Body Pink Convicts. My guess is she has the pink cons because nearly all male blood parrots are sterile. I dont consider SB Pink Cons a Parrot because they are not Parrots.

From what I have seen, most cosmetic fish come from overseas. And overseas they they don't typically view animals as we do so you see horrible things being done to make them look "pretty" or interesting.
