To honest, I would've gone bigger if we had the room. It wasn;t a money-thing, it was a space-thing. The only practical place to put the tank was between those two windows and 72"x36" was about as wide as we could get.

What's your concern about the lid-thing, out of curiosity?

LOL, ever seen a 26" puffer that weighs ten pounds try to get air?

We've had him in an open-top tank for his entire life. If he couldn't do it when he was 4" long, he sure isn't going to be able to do it now. I appreciate your concern, though.

Trust me, if our puffer could leave the water, he would've by now. He sees that glass of thawing crawdads coming from across the room and if it was up to him, he would levitate out of the tank and head straight for it, LOL. His fat ass does a really good job of splashing water everywhere but that's about as good as it gets.

Out of curiosity, how old and how large is your Mbu puffer?
