i got the socks yesterday that i originally ordered with the flared up handle rings. Its a good thing I placed a order for the other ones with the seal ring because the rings are flatter. My sump is a eshopps rs300 with a built in sock holder and the lid that goes over and covers the sock area would not have sit flush with the sump sock holder area. Might not be a problem for others but it would have been in my situation. The new batch of socks are scheduled to come today. cant wait.

I think the consensus is that polypropylene is the most durable material. I have used polyester socks as well and it seems to me that they are a bit softer and easier to clean. Either way, be sure that at least the outside is singed or 'glazed' so that they won't lose stray fibers into your sump.

Its not fancy at all. Wish it was. Here are some pictures of the socks and my sump. I like the ring design better but Im not too sure about the polypropylene material yet. I just put one in my sump so its too soon to say. I hope they loosen up a little bit because they are definitely stiffer. They do feel really durable and have a different texture. A little hard to work with. They dont just slide in the sock holder like my old polyester socks. You have to kind of shape the sock by hand to form a hollow sock. Might do another return and stick with the polyester socks. Not sure yet.

Still need to plumb my uv and clean up my electrical and tubing. Trying to just keep it simple and basic. ATTACH=CONFIG]860391[/ATTACH]IMG_6624.JPGIMG_6630.JPGIMG_6632.JPG

Im going to move the pond matrix into fx5 and the biomax from the fx5 to sump. The kitchen strainer is just temporary until I can pick up a bigger pond basket.

How come you don't fill all of that extra space with nylon pot scrubbers? It looks like you are missing out on a lot of BB potential to me. Just my opinion.

I was thinking the same thing, that sump area is far too clean and organized. Trust me you will like these socks much better, give them some time. They are far far better. And will soften up a little after some use. But they filter like crazy, amazing your at 25 microns, then again with 100 microns on my little tank and an fx5 its taking forever to fill up this time, have not washed the sock in a month. So I could probably do a 25 micron sock.

This is the cleanest sump floor I've ever seen. I think I can drink out of this! :D Guess it's a testament to your fishkeeping regiment. Makes you wonder what you got up top. The livestock must be worth thousands!!!!! lol

I understand bleach is the best way to clean the filter socks, but how much bleach and how much water and for how long to leave before throw in the washing machine?
