Why does my Goliath look different?

It's now at 9" and it doesn't look like the other Goliaths I keep looking at. He's not golden at all. More silver. His snout is more pointy and his tail doesn't have a ragged trailing edge like the others. It's more defined and has a black edge like the VATFs. The body is more torpedo also. The lighting wasn't the greatest but his lower tail doesn't have much red in it at all. Not like the VATFs do.

I have a feeling this isn't the same Goliath that everybody else has....... I almost want to say it's a hybrid between a VATF and Goliath.

Honestly it looks kinda like Forskahlii considering it sorta looks like it has the blackened lower portion of his caudal fin which is indicative of a FATF, however I thought Forskahlii had the pronounced dark lateral lines like the VATF has that you posted.

Sashimi, your fish is unquestionably a GATF. The reason it looks different is because your specimen is basically flawless. Once they get bigger, if the tail gets a cut or slash it won't heal back correctly and it starts getting that ragged look. Yours clearly hasn't been shredded too often. The colors you describe on the tail is normal. In fact, your fish looks almost identical to mine, except mine is a bit bigger and has a pointier tail.

My tank is blacked out with a black background and a black bottom. If your fish was in my tank or vise versa, I suspect our fish would look about the same. One thing that has me quite intrigued is how my dark my fish is and how his fins are starting to get a lot of black in them.

Edit: He has the black line on the edge of his tail, too, but you can't see it thanks to the black background.

Chicx, you're looks like mine but the parts that I'm suspicious about are the width of the tail. A lot of Goliaths I've seen have wider tails and no black edging. Also their bodies are not as torpedo shaped. I thought it may have been because of age. But as I see more and more Goliaths at the same age or size and still different I started to wonder.

I guess I'll just have to wait until it's bigger and then make a judgement.
