who says k1 HAS to move? i believe the whole idea behind k1 is oxygen rich water.they claim the more chaotic movement on the k1 will knock off dead bb and allow new more hungry bb to grow.my beds have both irratic moving and stationary media (k1,k3,biochips).i dont see an issue with either.,

i have yet to see a airstone plug up from bacteria growing on the stone.seems obvious to me theres not near enough air flowing through the stone if a growing bb can plug it.
Was wondering where you were and when you would chime in.:)

Very much south..
Fully agree with round. It is logical.

But one has to cope with what one has.....

Mine is boiling! Found the balance, i think....

PICS!!!!! I'll post pics if you post pics....... :)

I need some ideas! I've rebuilt too many times already, I need to get it right this time or I'm gonna loose my mind. I don't care how you're using the stuff, I see plenty of proof that it's working......lol

i'm around..i just prefer not to post much.i tend to lose my mind with some people,(cuss like a madman and punch my computer screen)lol..my own short comings and i know it..thus i try and keep quiet.

for what its worth, i put large airstones ahead of my k1 (in my mechenical compartment ahead of the reactor compartment) as well as a few large airstones at the beggining of the reactor compartment.mycompartments are 24widex30long and 70% of the media is always tumbling with the other 30% mostly stationary.right or wrong, its how my 1000g+ tanks are all set up and rarely i have issues..i will admit, however, i am having trouble with nitrates which of course is directly related to stocking and waste.i need to find a better way to remove waste BEFORE it hits my reactor..stingrayed and i are hard at work on this issue..

Hold up isn't the whole point of the reactor as apposed to other types of filtration to cut the nitrates down

Well here is the media I got, I am going to be trying 2 cubic feet of the stuff. This is about 20 gallons worth so it will make a large reactor.

I think this was covered but for clarity- Nitrates can only be reduced/removed 3 ways:
#1. Water Changes.
#2. Plant filtration- hydroponics style.
#3. Algae Turf scrubbers
