The Use of Probiotics in Aquaculture

I saw one mention of cyanobacteria being reduced in a post in this thread but no other mention of using these products in saltwater tanks.

1.) Was the person posting about Cyano reduction stating that he/she tested this type of septic tank powder in saltwater tanks or is there a freshwater version of Cyanobacteria?

2.) Can these bacteria survive and function equally well in saltwater? I would like to try it in my 20 gallon reef tank.

3.) Can someone repeat the doses that have been tried/used of Rid-X in freshwater, just so I don't have to re-read the whole thread again. ~and thanks...

It is just the tip of the iceberg. It's a fascinating artical. I posted eairler in the CA/SA about the potential use of probiotics in combating Cyanobacteria as an option before going to antibiotics.

It actually makes alot of sense. Just as coral colonies wage perpetual war against their neighbor species for space to proliferate, so do bacteria colonies. The constant surge and ebb of both BB and pathogenic bacteria determine the overall health of the system. Basically, fish get sick when pathogenic bacteria exist in greater population numbers than BB. And, fish are healthy when BB colonies outnumber pathogenic bacteria. The regular use of probiotic additives ensures that the BB has the greatest chance of continually out-competing the pathogenic bacteria.
