Should have put stalsbergi in the name of the thread then, it avoids the confusion of common names. Considering there are 2-4 true green terrors ...
Yeah, but people would probably still put pictures in the A. Stalsbergi thread because if they may not understand common names then they might not understand the scientific names either. It is really quite simple... Everyone seems aware of the fact that A. Stalsbergi is "known" as the "True" Green Terror, and tge Saums are known as the "False" Green Terror; some people just seem to do this in spite of the common name. Even if the common names do not accurately portray the fishes, they are still the common names regardless, and some people neglect this reality, and choose to post false information in inappropriate threads in which they are fully aware of the intent of the thread. I am not trying to cause problems, I am just voicing my opinion and this whole thing does not make sense. Some people just seem to be being rude because they understand the intent of the thread name but still put pictures that are not relevant and they seem aware of this behavior. One of the main reasons is the A. Stalsbergi was the first Green Terror mainly introduced into the fish hobby, and then different circumstances occurred, and later the Gold Saums started to become more numerous in the hobby and eventually replace the A. Stalsbergi. The Gold Saum acquired the Green Terror title, but when the public became more aware of the A. Stalsbergi's original presence, they realized that this was the ORIGINAL Green Terror first introduced in the hobby and so the fish acquired the title of "True" Green Terror, which the fish actually DID have the original name for the common name of Green Terror in the first place. Does this all matter? Probably not, but some people just seem to forget all of this and belligerently cause trouble and is not even relevant nor appropriate. I love all forms of Green Terrors and they are all Green Terrors; the names are just common names in place to help be more specific in helping to identify the fish without the more complex and confusing scientific name. Heritics just cry foul... That is all.Should have put stalsbergi in the name of the thread then, it avoids the confusion of common names. Considering there are 2-4 true green terrors ...
I know Darth Pike, I agree with you because the Green Terror has tended to have a complicated history with the common names, and even required adjustments or changes to the scientific names . I do think some people do it intentionally, but I am also aware that many exist that probably are not aware. I overreacted based on other information in other threads and on this thread, so I apologize to everyone because now I realize that I may have been a little brash. But the the content of my message still remains to people who do know better and intentionally cause problems.I'll always argue the common name is the more confusing one ... most average aquarists don't even know there are more than one species of green terror ... so they might be posting what they think is the 'true green terror' ... I wouldn't assume everyone posting their saum may not be doing it on purpose. Actually, I'd assume most don't know the difference.
Life would be so much more simple without common names, especially since they are applied to multiple species and sometimes even entire complexes, ie Texas cichlids.
I know Eyebedam, you make a valid point. I realize that labeling can be incorrect and unfortunately confuse some people into what they believe they are purchasing, but just like you mentioned Green Terrors, the thread mentions True Green Terrors. The name was not that generalized. I know they are all Green Terrors; "True" and "False" Green Terrors are just another more specific common name. But you are correct and I agree with you 100 percent, and I understand your point you are trying to convey.Green terror 3003 a lot of folks posting there pics may have bought them from a LFS that had them labeled as green terror & that's what they honestly believe they have

Last month I bought a Red Terror, but it is not the Festae I was looking for. Gladly, the LFS let me return the fish. The store did not post the scientific name, and there are two species named Red Terror and they look alike as juvenile. So should we name them true and false Red Terror to avoid mixing up?
