Hey guys.. I'm not sure if it's my photos or what but I've noticed that everytime I do water changes, the roots stop growing but instead new roots sprout out of the old roots..
Is this normal? I like the look of long roots so in my case it will take ages for the roots to grow long if this keeps on..
And also new leaves start to replace the old ones.. The old leaves are dying off one by one as new shoots grow.. Is this normal as well?

I had pothos in my tank but my giant gourami ate them all. I'll try it out in a different tank.
Pothos should not be submerged! Unless you mean it ate the roots? In that case look at the 1st page where I use a basket, or you can stick the roots in a hob filter, or any plastic container! If there's a will there's a way with this plant!

Thanks!
With the exception of the mini baskets, the rest of the containers are temporary, to keep the roots wet/under water during the rinse/soak before going into the tank. I'm not going to be able to finish this until tomorrow night & didn't want the roots to dry out :)

I've experienced similar things, roots will die sometimes and new ones will grow back and when a root dies so does a leaf normally! Do you have added lighting on it? And wc shouldn't matter unless your nitrates and or Bio load is extremely small! If that's the case let your nitrates peak at 20-25ppm before doing a wc!

Pothos update...
I'm about halfway finished setting up my second pothos experiment. For now, I've placed them in mini baskets, gently put the roots through the spaces in the baskets and covered them with little rocks. Then I wedged the baskets between the glass and 3d background. I'm trying really hard not to get stems in the water. Last time they rotted and made a mess. They're on top of the lids so my whippet and daughter can't reach them! I like the way the pothos roots look up against the faux roots from the 3d BG. When the roots are established in the water, I'm going to connect the baskets to stainless steel eyehooks with zip ties.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Here is my wife's 55 gallon goldfish tank with pothos in a HoB filter that we had lying around. The pothos has been in there for about a month now and has really brought the nitrates into check.

Is the hob running as an additional filter/holder with just pothos or a main filter that also has media?
