Scott s can you give a quick low down on how your filtration works? Looks like a container as a sump, one as a reactor, and what is the green one?

Guess I forgot to respond to this one...

The bin that my overflow dumps into has my mechanical filtration and bioreactor.

This bin is tied into the other one via 2-inch pvc.

The second bin has my return pump and heater.

The return pump pushes the water through a pond filter which is basically set up like a small bioreactor also. It has a UV light built in.

Currently, I have both of my 360 gallon tanks tied into this filter. At first I did not like the setup, but after playing with it for a bit am very pleased.

Very cheap and very easy to reproduce.

Just read through the entire thread and feel like this needs a bump to the top. For those who haven't read this, do so.

I am wanting to construct a sweet bioreactor but I cannot find the biochips for sale anywhere...? I found k1 on eBay, shipped, for $100/2cuft but is this still the go to method? Everything says to use with biochips so I would think they should be easy to find for sale....

They sell turn key reactors. That is what I used as a guide line when building mine, gives you an idea on size of vessel to use with how much media, flow rates, and amount of food one will process.

You don't need bio chips but if you want to add them you sure can. Take a look at the media I am using. It's good stuff at a great price allot of options available.

Why would you not want small bio animals capable of polishing up to 5 micron???? That's like going and ordering a new sports car with an automatic tranny or hiring an escort to go see a movie.
