Glass Thickness Guide

Quite a thread to say the least..alot of conflicting ideas about how thick to go for sure. From what Ive read 1/2 is good for tanks up to 24 iches deep and if your crazy or just brave you could go to 30 inches tall?

size of the tempered glass is 6 feet x 30 inches.
will adding a 2 inch inch glass brace on top of the glass viewing panel have effect of adding strength to the panel?

So I'm doing resurch for a possible plywood corner tank with base dimensions of 2'x3' and height of 42" the viewing window would be aprox 43"x42" tall are we talking 1/2" thicknesses on glass here? I should mention water level will be min 30" max36"
This thread interests me so much! I have turtles and came across a tank I'd love to build (was planning a 300 gal plywood but I really like how tall this one is, instead of it being on a stand, this one mimics a pond much better.
Any idea how thick the glass is on this? I'm guessing it has to be at least 1" thick, right? The edges look very thick to me.

As a tank manufacturer with 40+ years experience building tanks in the UK I would have to agree with the many members who doubt the figures shown in the opening posts. As an example, and as already commented upon, to suggest using 12mm glass on a 96in x 36in(high) x 24in tank is really misleading. The minimum glass thickness I would recommend for this size is 15mm, with a double thickness base (2 x 12mm sheets).
