I have a young 3" Del and I was wondering what everyone thinks about keeping a healthy supply of guppies and/or African dwarf frogs in the tank with him? I want the tank just dedicated to my Del but I think having 25(ish) guppies or dwarf frogs swimming around would help make the tank a bit more interesting to look at during the day as well as keep my little guy nice and fat. I would still drop in some pellet food/beefheart/earthworms like I am doing now. Do you think he would be interested in those foods with all the live feeders swimming around?

and yes I would breed my own guppies and QT the African frogs so I am not as concerned about parasites/sickness

If I started him on pellets do you think I could then introduce the guppies/frogs or is keeping all those feeders in the tank with him just going to spoil him into not eating pellets?

No, he eats beefheart, bloodworms and pellets now and I think he is growing pretty good. I just wanted to spoil him haha

Some polys seem very prone to overeating and gorging themselves. Dels seem to be one of these that have that issue where the shut off for food intake just does not seem to be there. Having a constant supply of food like that seems like it might add to the problem. Granted they have to catch the food but they get pretty good at it and the feeders have nowhere to go. So its an all you can eat buffet for an overeating fish, lol.
