I see them all the time and they have them in fresh water i thought all puffers were saltwater fish ... can they be put into saltwater? If so how would i go about it ?

There is freshwater puffers. SOme get a few feet. MBU puffers are the largest species of FW then it is Fahaka.

The one you saw at walmart is a brackish fish. Its both fresh and salt water mix. Even though they use just freshwater they can adapt to it. Search the puffer section on here a lot of great info!

How would you switch them from freshwater to salt

Brackish puffer normally lives part of its life in brackish water and as an adult lives in saltwater. Many fish do this like mollies. If a fish has been living in fresh water for a long time and is suddenly switched to saltwater then they usually cannot adapt fast enough to survive. Sometimes it takes weeks to convert a brackish fish from freshwater to saltwater, by slowly raising the salinity over time.

Do you think a drip would work ?

I suppose it can work I'm no expert I have never done this. I had a conversation with my father who is a saltwater guy and he told me people do the drip method all the time.

The puffer I believe most be a brackish specimen or else it will just die. Kind of like snowflake eels and other eels that can be freshwater/brackish/saltwater fish. If you're thinking about this why not just buy a saltwater proven puffer?

My father had a 4 foot moray eeel with a puffer and they both did well together.

What kind of puffer was it ? I have a 2 foot moray eel. . Well cause the puffers at walmart are cheep lol

a drip would probably work. You could also put it in fresh and slowly increase the sg. Probably not a good idea to put in a puffer with a moray. It could work, but puffers tend to be aggressive, especially towards slower moving fish, plus morays are predatory

No idea I am not into saltwater so didn't care too much. The puffer was big though because the eel was huge.
