Heros sp. Curare grow out thread.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

this one is my biggest and most colourful so far

This is the second biggest. These two are in the same tank, they out grew the other 2 by a lot so I kept them together and separated the smaller two so they have less competition for food and such.
this is one of the two smaller ones. The other is in a dark tank so I didn't bother trying to grab a photo. They were Ill with some parasites or something when I first got them and were pretty resistant to the treatments but they are eating well now, hopefully I can have them all in the same tank soon ish.

Goodness those colored up ones look GREAT. You got them at 1.5 inches or so right? What do you estimate them to be in size now 6 months later?

Interesting that yours also had ich. The other threads on the Heros sp Curare all mention ich accompanying the fry that they got (Wetspot in Oregon). So odd!

Glad all of yours survived and that a couple are thriving! They really look like mini-versions of the pics from Japan. Need to go clear out a quarantine tank it seems :)

How long did you battle the ich for?

No ich, I'm not sure what it was. I assumed it was a parasite and treated as such.its been a little hectic for me so I would have to say the treatment was poor at best, its turning for the better though. When I first got them 2 were eating, 2 weren't. Of the 2 that were the largest is now prob 4.5" and is a giant bully to the smaller one which is around 3-3.5". These are total estimates. But yea I recently read some other threads saying how their new Heros curare were also not eating when they were first purchased which is an interesting coincidence if nothing else. Definitely grab some though. If I could go back in time I would have bought 8.

Well these guys are simply too awesome... despite all the problems everyone is having regardless of where they have been purchasing from, I'm getting 4x of them from Wet Spot.

I'll plan to treat in small 10G QT tank for a month and monitor closely. I actually have never had an outbreak of any disease before. I have API Melafix and Seachem Paraguard available. Any hints or suggestions?

Hoping mine will pull through and show the color of your big guy :)

One seem pretty resilient despite 2 not eating really. I've never been a big fan of melodic but the Paraguay might do some good even as just a precautionary measure. Good luck. I just rearranged the tank my 2 largest are in so I'll be sure to post some more pics soon

More pics. This is the big one

The smaller one.
And this is the tank I have the 2 best looking in tank mates are 6 guianacara dacrya, a l333 plecos, and I just added a group of brochi splendens today. It's a relatively chill tank and they are really only aggressive to each other.

They look awesome! The color is really starting to come in!

Are they in your 125G?
